Water/Oil marks inside Cabinet

Advice on Purchasing a Used Washing Machine.

Buying a used washing machine is like buying a used car. Tip the washing machine over and look through the bottom (You cannot do this with all washing machines). Look for dirty oil or water marks on the inside of the cabinet. Oil water marks indicate the transmission/gearbox is worn and new bearings and seals need to fitted. The picture shows a Simpson washing machine with a worn transmission. The inside should be clean and free of rust. Rebuilding the transmission can be expensive.
